Hematology Lab, Brigham & Women's Hospital

Clinical Hematology Laboratory

The Hematology Laboratory is located on the second floor of the Amory Building adjacent to laboratory control. The laboratory operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week, and supports routine and STAT hematologic testing from the hospital's emergency department, in-patient medical, surgical, intensive care, NICU and fetal-maternal wards, as well as associated outpatient and hospital ambulatory clinics. Specialized areas of testing include:

  • Routine and STAT hematologic and coagulation testing.
  • Urinalysis and body fluids analysis.
  • Hemoglobin electrophoresis and hemoglobin A1c determination.
  • Specialized coagulation testing including DIC and thrombolysis screening, platelet and coagulation factor studies.
  • Hematologic testing critical for fetal maternal medicine.
  • Flow cytometric analysis of hematologic malignancies, tumor DNA content and CD4 counts in HIV-positive patients.
  • Molecular diagnostics for inherited coagulation disorders and markers of hematologic malignancies.
