Result Reports

Daily reports can be printed on-site for outpatient practices that use the computerized lab ordering system. For all other outpatient practices, hand copy result reports are available the following morning by 11:00AM, and will be distributed by the mail room. 

STAT results are available in the computer within one hour. 

Preliminary impressions of culture plates are computer filed and accessible on the computer as soon as the cultures are read. These impressions are labeled, "Preliminary Results," and are prefaced with, "Suspected," and may be revised in the final report. They are intended to convey all information as soon as available, though they may be changed. 

Routine cytology reports will be mailed to the requesting physician or clinic as soon as possible. GYN results take approximately two weeks from the time material is received by the laboratory. Modified Bethesda Terminology is used for reporting GYN results. Please note the established criteria for an "unsatisfactory" and "less than optimal" results. Information is provided regarding smearing, fixation of routine PAP smears as well as the instruments recommended for optimal sampling. 

NON-GYN cytology results take approximately 3 days.
