Send-out Test Review Policy

The clinical laboratory medical directors periodically review tests that are sent out to reference labs to evaluate cost, request frequency and clinical utility. Unusual send-out that are infrequently ordered, expensive, and of questionably appropriateness require approval of a Medical Director prior to processing. Tests meeting these criteria are listed below.

When a request arrives in the laboratory for one of these procedures, the appropate Medical Director will contact the clinician to discuss the need for the procedure. Any specimens thar arrive in lab control for these test orders will be stored appropriately until the medical director approves the test. This approval policy also applies to any request for new send-out tests not previously sent out, or to any deviation from established procedures for an approved send-out test.
