Alert value results are called back to the ordering location or practice
site according to the guidelines listed below.
Ambulatory practices
-
Page physician who ordered the tests, after two attempts, then..
-
Call practice secretary and state, "I have an alert value which must be
relayed to the nurse."
-
The practice secretary will connect you to the nurse.
-
Contact the supervisor in the laboratory.
From 5.00PM to 9.00AM (after hours):
-
Page physician, after two attempts..
-
Call page operator for the name and page numner of the physician covering
the practice.
-
Page the physician and give the alert value to her or him. If no response
to the page, then
-
Call the Emergency Services Attending Physician.
Emergency Services
Day and Evening Shifts
-
Call ext. 5636 and ask to be connected with the charge secretary who will
take the results.
-
Nigh shift, ask to be connecte to the Nurse in Charge or the attending.
Health Centers
-
Call laboratories.
-
When laboratories are closed, page the physician on call. I no response,
then ..
-
Call the Emergency Services Attending Physician.
Hematology/Oncology
-
If location says Hematology/Oncology (H/O) call Chemotherapy Infusion first.

If patient not there, page M.D.
-
If no answer, page the Hematology/Oncology fellow on call.
From 5.00PM to 9.00AM (after hours

Page physician, after two attempts, then..

Call page operator for the name and page numner of the physician covering
the practice.

Page the physician and give the alert value to her or him. If no response
to the page, then

Call the Emergency Services Attending Physician.

Call BMG and give result to the practice secretary.
