Three donation programs exist:

  • Autologous (self) Donors: Patients with surgery or delivery scheduled at BWH may donate blood for their subsequent use. Their physician initiates the procedure by filling out the "Physician's order form for autologous donation." Patients should the call to schedule their donations. The autologous program coordinator can be reached at (617) 732-6620 or (617) 732-6912.
  • Designated (Directed) Donors: Patients scheduled for transfusion at BWH may select their own blood donors. This procedure is initiated by the patient's physician on the "Physician's order form for directed donation." The patient must also provide a list of donors acceptable to them. Designated donation is by appointment only. Please call the program coordinator at (617) 732-6620.
